Rain on any Saturday can be cozy and sometimes welcomed. Not always on your wedding day. At least not on your wedding day when the plan is a ceremony in the park and reception in a pavilion...
Yesterday was one of those where I wished I could more often emphasize the importance of two things: 1. HAVING A BACK UP PLAN... especially with an outdoor ceremony or reception location and 2. HIRING A PLANNER.
We all need to feel a little self worth, yes, but that's not why #2 pops in my mind.... ;)
I got a call yesterday morning from a favorite photographer of mine, Alexi Shields. The bride of the wedding she was planning to shoot that day had just called in tears and Alexi wanted to see if there was anyway I could help. It was POURING all morning and the wedding day plan was to get married in Veterans Park in Royal Palm with a reception to follow in the park pavilion. The guest list consisted of 150 people and the couple was planning to depart on their honeymoon the following morning. WELL, no one planned for rain and with thunderstorms plowing through all of Palm Beach area, the day looked MORE than bleak. The bride started calling frantically around, but no locations were available last minute. To make matters WORSE, the DJ backed out, claiming his equipment attracts lightning, and the Florist was no where to be found. A tear-filled bride stood in front of the dark flower shop with a fortunately soothing photographer on the line ready to help in anyway possible. But what's a photographer to do in this situation? What's anybody to do in this situation?
BRIDES: Always expect the unexpected. Nobody thinks it's going to rain on their wedding day, but if it does and you DON'T have a planner, I hope you have already laid out a back up plan. If you DO have a planner, I'm sure the worst that will happen is a tough phone call to determine whether or not to move the festivities indoors. And hopefully they've been watching the weather the week prior to make additional proper arrangements so your wedding day is perfect regardless. The backup is never ideal, but let's face it, at least you have options and no one is going to rain on your parade! Look at that stunning bride above with her groom. A little rain didn't bother them ONE BIT... but they were also all indoors except for this cool shot by Alea Moore Photography.
Wedding is a very crucial occasion for a couple. So such a event should be handled very carefully.
